About

About Me.

My name is Julie.  I am the gal behind The Health & Wellness Post, and I strength train for health, among other reasons.

In my 20’s, I was strictly an aerobics type of gal, but eventually I felt the need to switch over to something a bit more challenging.  Something which would allow me to prove to myself (and others) that I was tough enough to be “one of the boys”.   So, first of all, I signed on for an extreme fitness kickboxing class.   And, still wanting more, I soon added weight lifting to my workout regimen.  Through my new passion for exercising and strength training, I learned that my body was capable of gaining way more strength than I had ever imagined without losing femininity.  Plus, the strength training made an incredible improvement in my health.  Taking the extreme fitness kickboxing class (with a moto by the way that says, “Your workout is our warmup.”) has been one of the hardest things I have ever done.  But the high I started getting from being in the class lighted a spark in me which couldn’t be put out.  Rather the spark just kept getting brighter and brighter.

Through strength training, I have achieved better health, a strong core with ripped abs, strength and definition in my arms and legs, and confidence … confidence in walking alone at night, and confidence in myself and my abilities.  Now, I want to take what I have learned and share it with my blog readers so that they too can achieve their fitness goals while improving their lives.

Three important things you should know about strength training:

1.  Strength training (different from bodybuilding) is no longer just a man’s sport and it doesn’t make women big and bulky.

2.  Strength training is a leading way to lose weight because muscle burns fat.  The more muscle you have, the more fat you’ll burn.

3.  Strength training slows down the aging process.
